Its Only Forever Chapter One

Sarah ran helplessly up stairs, around corners and through doorways, trying to reach her baby brother. 

Jareth stood by, watching her repeatedly fail. 

She stopped, gasping for breath. No matter how hard she tried, or how fast she was, the maze kept changing. 

Sarah ran out onto a ledge, and looked down. There was Toby, sitting in an offset doorway, fiddling with the crystal Jareth gave him.

"Toby!" she shouted again. He just looked up at her, unaware that time running out. She took a deep breath, and looked over at Jareth. He was now standing on a staircase to her left, watching with interest. 

She jumped. She almost reached Toby, when he disapeared, and the maze crumbled around her. Sarah floated safely down onto a piece of the floor suspended in the air. She gulped, breathing hard after her fall.

Out of a darkened doorway, Jareth appeared. He seemed almost like an angel, dressed in a white, flowing cape. 

"Give me the child," Sarah said, her voice trying its best to seem unwavering. 

Jareth walked toward her. It was almost like she was in a dream. Everything looked so graceful, but here, nothing is as it seems.

"Beware, Sarah. I have been generous up until now,  but I can be cruel," Jareth said darkly.

"Generous! What have you done thats generous?" said Sarah questioningly.

Jareth scowled. "Everything! Everything that you wanted, I have done. You asked that the child be taken, I took him. You cowered before me, I *was* frightening. I have reordered time! I have turned the world upside-down, and I have done it all for you!" He sighed. "I'm exhausted from living up to your expectations of me. Isn't that generous?" 

Sarah straightened her back, and took a step forward. 

"Through dangers untold, and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to castle beyond the goblin city, and for my will is as strong as yours-"

"Stop!" Jareth said, and he pulled out one of his many crystals and held it before her. 

"Look, Sarah. Look at what I'm offering you; your dreams."

"And my kingdon is as great-"

"I ask for so little. Just let me rule you," he said pleadingly. "And you can have everything that you want."

"Kingdom is great... Damn! I can never remember that line!" 

Jareth was running out of time. "Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave!"

Sarah stumbled backwards. "Jareth, I... I..." 

Her vision was blurring in and out, and it felt extremly hot. The next thing she knew, she was on the ground,  with Jareth knealing over her.

"Sarah!" he said. He said something else, but it was all jumbled together, blocked out by the ringing in her ears. 

The last thing she saw was Toby's face.
